In order to ensure the provision of environmental data DG ENV, DG ESTAT, DG JRC, and EEA have agreed to established "European Data Centres" as a joint system for the provision of data in some of the most important environmental fields, and agreed on the principals for the sharing of responsibilities.

Data centres under responsibility of Joint Research Centre (JRC)

1. EUROPEAN FOREST DATA CENTRE (EFDAC)
The European Forest Data Center (EFDAC) is a focal point for policy relevant forest data and information by hosting and pointing to relevant forest products and by providing web-based tools for accessing and updating information located in EFDAC. 

2. EUROPEAN SOIL DATA CENTRE (ESDAC)
The European Soil Data Centre acts as the primary data contact point for the European Commission’s DG ENV in order to fulfil its soil information needs.

3. EUROPEAN WATER DATA CENTRE
The European Water Data Centre provides its public interface through the Water Information System for Europe (WISE) which complies a number of data and information collected at EU level by various institutions or bodies which has either not been available or only been fragmented over many places.

4. EUROPEAN DATA CENTRE ON BIODIVERSITY 
Data centre targeted to integration and management of the existing data flows on biodiversity in EU in a consolidated, streamlined, harmonised and quality-assured way.    

5. EUROPEAN DATA CENTRE ON CLIMATE CHANGE  
The central entry responsible for management of data under Community legislation on GHG emissions and projections as well as related to reporting on climate change indicators.   

6. EUROPEAN DATA CENTRE ON LAND USE
Data centre responsible for dissemination of operational services in connection with land cover datasets and other land cover data based on spatial analysis.  
7. EUROPEAN CENTRE FOR AIR POLLUTION 
Data centre designated for data collection related to Community legislation, maintenance and improvement of the existing European air quality and air emission information system.

8. EUROPEAN DATA CENTRE FOR WASTE 
The central entry point for reporting of data under Community legislation on waste and providing information on waste and the associated environmental impacts.  

9. EUROPEAN DATA CENTRE FOR NATURAL RESOURCES AND PRODUCTS
The reference point for statistical information on Natural Resources and Products and the associated environmental impacts under Community legislation.
